MPECU SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

2011  MPECU SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Scholarship applications must be submitted online or postmarked by Wednesday, July 7th, 2010.  To be eligible for 2011 scholarships, student applications must:

  • be a member of MPECU (applicant's account must be in good standing)
  • have joined MPECU by July 3, 2010
  • be a current graduating high school senior, or college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior at an accredited college or university

The Scholarship amounts are: 4-$1,000, 4-$500, 2-$250.

To apply, you need to read the information about the program, complete the one-page application form answering all questions.

We will notify the scholarship recipients by Monday, July 26, 2010 also  posting them on the this website.

Please take the time to read over the guidelines before starting the application form and essay. Because the selection committee will have many applications to review, applicants not following the guidelines will not be considered.

The question portion of the application is crucial, as it will make up 75% of the selection process. You are encouraged to interview staff members and volunteers at your credit union for your questions, and gather whatever information you feel necessary. Please note that we do not want long answers, but a concise, one-page  summing up your interpretation of the essay question.

Application

Complete the one-page application form below. You can reproduce this form by computer if you wish. Complete all areas of the form and essay question . Application forms will count for 25% of evaluation. 

Essay Question:

"College graduates face mortgage-sized student loans and several thousand dollars of credit card debt upon graduation from college. How do you plan to prepare yourself for the financial road ahead?"  

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be planning to attend an accredited educational institution in the fall of 2010/2011 and be a member of MPECU. The school you are planning to attend can be a public or private university, college, community or technical college, or other accredited educational institution. Financial need is not considered in the selection of the scholarship money. Relatives of the employees of Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union are not eligible to enter.

Selection

A selection Committee made up of staff members and marketing committee members and volunteers from MPECU. The decision of the Selection Committee is final, and not subject to review.

Application Form

Your essay question and application form must be typed or computer word-processed. Handwritten forms and essays are not permissible due to concerns over legibility and misinterpretation. Applications materials will not be returned and become the property of the MPECU.

Deadline

Scholarship applications must be submitted online or postmarked by Wednesday, July 7th, 2010.
